HETE是由脂氧合酶代谢花生四烯酸产生的副产物。12(S)-HETE是12(S)-氢过氧四烯酸(12(S)-HpETE)还原的立体特异性羟基产物,其本身是花生四烯酸的12-脂氧酶代谢产物。12(S)-HETE对多形核白细胞和血管平滑肌细胞有趋化作用和化学促活作用,它也作为血管紧张素-II诱导的醛固酮产生的第二信使。12(S)-HETE与氧化应激、炎症、癌症、动脉粥样硬化和心血管疾病等相关,有研究表明,12(S)-HETE参与抑制肾素的产生,刺激胰腺组织分泌胰岛素,诱导内皮细胞收缩和肿瘤细胞粘附。
